New things (some you can wear!) - NL #22

Hi friends!

This month, we’re sharing a few exciting updates.

From something new we’ve been working on for a while, to a couple of unexpected moments of recognition, and a look at what’s coming together for June.

1. We have Merch for sale

We’ve officially launched our merch 🎉

Everything is made-to-order through Bonfire, all with eco-friendly materials.

Most importantly, 100% of profits go directly toward supporting Ski Club Uganda’s mission, helping fund our tree planting and research efforts in Kilembe.

If you’ve been looking for another way to support, this is one.
We’d also love to hear what you think - more colors, products, ideas, anything (:

2. A Couple Mentions

We’ve had a couple of exciting (and unexpected) features recently - from our people to the conservation work in the Rwenzori Mountains.

Featured: Klemen Kosi & Ski Club Uganda — siol.net

Our brand ambassador, Klemen, was recently featured in siol.net, in a piece reflecting on his journey from competitive skiing to national-level success.

“I find [Ski Club Uganda’s] story very helpful. It stands for the values I aspire to, and it is also connected to my sport. I like to do things that are unusual, that are something special and have more meaning.”

The article is a nice reflection of the values that sit behind SCU - and the different paths that continue to connect back into the project.

Rwenzori Conservation Work — IUCN WCPA Mountain Update

Our work was also included in the IUCN WCPA Mountain Update Newsletter, which highlights ongoing conservation efforts across mountain regions globally.

The mention places SCU’s work within a broader network of initiatives focused on protecting fragile alpine ecosystems like the Rwenzoris, where reforestation and community-led approaches are increasingly central.

3. The June Trip is Taking Shape

With the trip getting closer, things are starting to come together.

Registration is now officially closed, and we’ll be heading to Kilembe with 30+ American & Ugandan students and 4 SCU volunteers.

Right now, the focus is on coordination—finalizing logistics, aligning with partners, and making sure everything is in place for when we arrive.

We’re also planning a community event while we’re there, where we’ll:

  • Share more about the project and our approach

  • Spend time with local community and school kids (including watching some cartoons)

  • Serve snacks and create space to connect

It’s a simple gathering, but an important part of how we show up and build relationships on the ground.

Once again, thanks for being here.

Your support means the world to us.

Cheers,
Morgan Long
