Important Updates - NW #11

February 16, 2025

Hey everyone,

First off, apologies for the delay in a newsletter and the trip planning meeting that got pushed back 2 weeks. Thank your patience as our team dealt with work & life events.

But in the meantime?
Great news.
Our Ski Club Uganda movement is growing!

And it’s a team effort.

1. We had our June trip planning meeting, where we met a new faces like Charlotte Beauvoisin (Diary of a Muzungu) and Alice from the Ugandan Wildlife Authority near Kilembe, and my friend Axel Schrotti.

It was great seeing everybody! If you missed it, full recording here!

There, we outlined details about the trip activities. Ski Club Uganda’s mission, the tree planting, skiing, and lodging with RTS. More details about packages and payments will come in the next few weeks. You’ll know as we know.

Morgan made a trip calendar and travel checklist! Find it here.

2. Besides this, Max is making progress on our documentary!

He’s already interviewed John Hunwick from RTS, and our own Lucas Decrinis. Up next is Nicole Dreon and our own Pauli. Brody and Uli, look out for an email from me. We’re happy to interview you if you’re interested.

3. Sarah & Dr. Bob have collaborated on a short research prospectus for the summer tree planting! It outlines the research activities they plan to do with students.

If you are curious about what we’ll do, read it!
**please keep in mind, this is a draft. It may change…**

4. Edson, Hannington, and John, and the entire RTS team are making many preparations for our tree planting in June!

We’ll be planting along the river valley, in nearby schools, and churches.

5. Lucas is making progress on Merch! He met with Magnus Liljeblad from LIFT-BORNE again this week. They will send us final apparel mockups and a Ski Club Uganda marketing draft for their newsletter soon.

Congrats to Magnus and his team for getting $1.5 million dollars in commitments from Ski Clubs this season! Find out more about LIFT-BORNE and their mission to support the sport of ski racing here.

6. Lukka and I finally found professors who love Ski Club Uganda at Middlebury College! I met with Prof. Will Amidon, chair of Environmental Sciences. When we have an established project, they are happy to fund students going to Uganda and promote this opportunity.

Lukka is following up to see if we can get featured in the Alumni Magazine, which would introduce us to 1000s of Middlebury alums, who may want to join or donate!

7. Ricky is editing our videos and getting them uploaded to our instagram!

We have many edited videos in the pipeline, expect to see them soon.

Phew!

Ski Club Uganda has a lot going on.

If you love what you’re seeing, are fortunate to have money to spare, and you haven’t donated yet like Jotam Pasiponodya, Nubia Echevarria, Anne Dix, Nicole Dreon, Elisabeth Purtscher, and Felix Knollmann… please consider supporting us!

Your donations go to keep us alive, and soon funding the team in Uganda.

Here’s our finances, this is the overheard you’re supporting.

All expenses so far come out of pocket. And of course, everyone volunteers their time.

So far we’ve raised $467 dollars from our wonderful donors! If you can, please consider donating below.

Thank you everybody for being here.

It’s an incredible journey, and we’re just getting started!
