We got a newsletter platform! - NL #7

December 6, 2024

Hi everyone, hope you had amazing Holidays.

It’s been a while, apologies. Lots has been happening behind the scenes.
…And we have great news to share!

1. Our Website is done!

Take a look, check out our members page.
A lot of you might find yourselves there... :)

Ricky (web designer) put in a lot of work. And now it looks great!

We’re going to add a merch store, and a “How to join” page, where we give a packing list, link to RTS and some guiding companies, and answer FAQs about the trip.
In case you find any issues, please WhatsApp or email me. We’ll fix it.

The team is coming together:

Klemen (brand ambassador) has connected us with a supplier on the merch front, now its up to us to meet with them. Lucas (co-founder) will be helping with the designs, and Ricky will integrate the merch into the website.

2. The 2024 Trip Recap

Lucas made the MOST AWESOME PRESENTATION EVER!

Take it a look. It’s amazing:

^That’s what we did. In a nutshell. It’s got so many details, maps, pictures, comments, and everything.

Lucas really did a fabulous job. This will make it easier for us to spread our story.

3. Interviews for a Documentary

Max (videographer) had the fantastic idea of interviewing all our members, in the spirit of collecting the stories of those who skied Mt. Ruwenzori.

We think we have a wonderful story to tell.
And we’d like you to be a part of it.

Ski Club Uganda doesn’t have the money to send a film crew, or even ship a film camera around to all of our members. Too bad everyone’s everywhere.
But… Ricky had the great idea that we do remote interviews. Getting as close to a professional recording with just your iPhone.

Before we start interviewing everyone, Ricky, Max, and I will do some test runs to figure out a good process.
Please reply if you’d like to get interviewed!

Questions will be around what inspired you to go, how did the trip go, how did it make you feel, what do you do outside of climbing glaciers in Africa? etc.

4. Infrastructure nearly done!

With the website launched, social media accounts up and running, much admin work around the board, bylaws, legal stuff, & team meetings… we’re finally getting to a point where we can focus more on designing the tree planting project and spreading the word.

Phew. It’s nice. Morgan (operations director) has played a massive role getting us this far.

And, perfect timing, Dr. Sarah Ivory emailed us this morning (I will respond in depth soon!) that she’d like to help out with the project!
Amazing. Let’s do it!

So what’s next?
Simple.

  • Designing the project.

  • Integrating Merch.

  • Fundraising.

  • Getting social media engine up and running.

5. Donations!

In the meantime, we’ve now got two more supporters:

Nubia Echeverria, (my landlady!) happens to run her own social enterprise in Peru, and we’ve connected on how to help a community and the trials around building a real organization. She’s really awesome. Thank you for your support!

Anne Dix, our board member, teaches in the National Defense University, and has been involved in many projects all over the world through USAID (United States Agency for International Development). She brings a ton of experience, and a calm perspective. Thank you, Anne.

Together their donations help us pay for 3 months of storing our images in the cloud.
It makes a difference.

If you have the capacity to, please donate here. Helps keep us running.

Donate to Ski Club Uganda startup costs (website, NGO applications), organized by Florian Knollmann

Over the next few weeks, we still have a ton of people to follow up with (Brody, Nicole, Uli). We haven’t forgotten.

Please bear with us as we keep moving forward.

We appreciate you being with us,

Florian & Ski Club Uganda

Summit Day, we were sooo close.
