T-minus 1 week - NL #16

June 9, 2025

Hey friends, short newsletter today.

We’re leaving next week! For our 8 days of tree planting with RTS’s team in Kilembe, and 8 days hiking and skiing in the Rwenzoris.
We’re all ready to go. Can’t believe it.

It’s been a long time coming.
Many meetings to plan this, a lot of effort from the whole team - especially Dr. Ivory, Dr. Nakileza, Brian, John Hunwick, Remmy, Morgan, and Max.

With this trip, we’re just getting started.
We’ll establish a baseline for tree nurseries, flood risk mitigation, and community sentiment in Kilembe around planting trees. We’re looking to help RTS’s team expand their tree nursery & community sensitization efforts over the coming years. Help, by bringing students, volunteers, and skiing tourists to plant trees and monitor the changes we’re making.

We’ve worked to refine our mission. Our experiences over the next few weeks will distill it further.
Thank you everyone for being here.

I can’t wait to share pictures and stories with you all.

For all of our lovely donors who helped us hit our fundraising goal - Jotam Pasipanodya, Nubia Echevarria, Anne Dix, Nicole Dreon, Felix Knollmann, Elisabeth Purtscher, Barbara Ritschel, Bjorn Knollmann, John Porter, Martina Decrinis, Bill Von Stockten, Max Eihausen, and Morgan Long - we’ll plant a tree in your name.

And if you haven’t donated yet, please do so here so we can make sure to honor you.

And if you can do us a favor, please share the story of Ski Club Uganda with your friends.

Let them know you’re supporting a wonderful young organization traveling to Uganda to plant trees and start research that will help combat climate change, and will lead to the first Ugandan to ski in their home country. (Stuart is planning to make history!)

Thank you, and have an excellent week.
