The Prep - NL #2

Hi Everyone,
Hope you had a lovely weekend.
We're leaving for Uganda on Friday! So last week was all about gear:
Making sure we have all the supplies for our trip, testing out our kits.
While at REI getting my massive shopping list, I asked their management team if they give grants to non-profits.
I learned three things:
REI does! But budget for this local branch is locked up till 2026.
All big companies can donate, but we NEED 501(c)3 status.
The best way to reach out is by calling their contact numbers, and asking for a referral to the internal team running grants/sponsorships.
So we'll be doing more of that after we get back!
Was in a forest training for the trip today, and I chanced upon a group setting up a slackline high across a ravine. They saw the skis on my back.. and asked if I wanted to try it.
I did, and 20 minutes later found myself dangling 100 ft in the air (clipped into a harness of course). Now this might not be your cup of tea, but I loved it!
After explaining the skis, the gear, and the goal of Ski Club Uganda.. one of them said- "hey, can I help plant those trees?"
Wow.
I was shocked. He later explained: "I've traveled a ton, but always for myself. I'd really love to go someplace to help people."
What I realized is there's people out there who'd want to go and help make this project a reality.
We just need to find them.
When I asked the group why they invited me to join them on the spot, they said: "Dude. You're carrying skis and wearing Wellingtons on a sunny day in Tennessee. You're our kind of weird."
I guess I am.
Stay tuned,
